President Jokowi Attends Festival of Archipelago Islamic Traditions

President Joko Widodo attended the Archipelago Islamic Tradition Festival which is part of a series of events to commemorate the One Century of Nahdlatul Ulama. The festival event was held at the Diponegoro Stadium, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, on Monday, January 9 2023.

When delivering his remarks, the President appreciated the organization of the festival which is full of the rich Islamic traditions of the Archipelago. In this event, said the President, the public will be presented with a number of performances that can inspire love for the nation’s cultural wealth.

“Currently the Archipelago Islamic Tradition Festival is being held to display and reintroduce the richness of Nusantara Islamic traditions, arouse our concern and love for the nation’s cultural wealth,” said the President.

On this occasion, the Head of State encouraged the public to learn from the religious scholars who chose the path of culture as one of the media in carrying out Islamic da’wah and propagation in the past. Thanks to this, the President continued, Islamic teachings were able to make a major contribution in building the civilization of the archipelago.

“Islamic teachings can coexist with and animate the cultures that exist in our diverse regions in the country, and make a major contribution in building the civilization of the archipelago,” he added.

In addition, thanks to the wisdom of the religious scholars, Indonesia has a variety of cultural arts with a strong Islamic style. “(Islamic cultural art) has adapted and colored the various patterns of Indonesian culture, enriched and made our culture even more special,” he said.

Not only as a spectacle, this art and culture also contains a message of life guidance to always remember the majesty of Allah SWT.

“Invite amar makruf nahi mungkar, refine feelings, strengthen tolerance and moderation, maintain harmony in diversity, and strengthen the social system in Indonesian society,” he added.

For this reason, the President invited Muslims throughout the country to take part in protecting and preserving the diverse cultural wealth of the archipelago. One of them is by using cultural arts as part of da’wah to build civilization.

“Bringing it to exist and be able to adapt to the progress of the times in the future,” said the President.

Also accompanying the President in the activity were the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md, Minister for Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the Regent of Banyuwangi Ipuk Fiestiandani.

Also present were the general chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf, and the chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama One Century Commemoration Organizing Committee Yenny Wahid.
